Over the weekend, we had the great fortune to hang out in the back room at Shamrock Social Club on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood. We hadn’t seen Mark Mahoney in five years and Saturday night reminded us what we had been missing for so long.

There’s a certain magic about Mark and his shop that just can’t be replicated –– it’s either there or it ain’t. As far as we’re concerned, there are precious few places like his on the planet: Vern Tardel’s hot rod ranch in Santa Rosa, CA on any late afternoon, daybreak at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, Troy Midkiff’s garage in an undisclosed area of Virginia at Midnight, Jason Jessee’s Auto Modown in Watsonville, CA, Finley’s Auto Service and Boxing Club in Washington, DC and Shamrock Social Club anytime after dark. In each, it’s the power of the personalities that are there even when they’re not that makes them so damn special.

Go see Mark. Go drink in that place and remember everything you see and everything you hear while you’re there. If you’re not changed when you leave, we got sorry news for you, Jack: you’re already dead, but you just don’t know it yet.
