August. Hottest month of the year, right? Well, when we shot Aria Giovanni out on the cliffs of Central California with Dave Kruger’s little Frankensteined roadster for our 2013 calendar, we thought August would be the appropriate month for her.
Now, as is often the case, we attract attention whenever we produce one of these photoshoots. Makes sense: we typically choose very public locations, usually outdoor (hey, we’re shooting cars, remember), always a beautiful girl, mostly as little wardrobe as we can get away with and the world is media-savvy enough these days that you can’t put up a ladder or light stands without at least a few people running up with the “You makin’ a movie?” question.
You can imagine what we had to contend with on this shoot. But, as always, we’re constantly reminded of the alternative…wasn’t that long ago that we were schlepping it out “Office Space”-style on TPS reports in taupe-colored cubicles. Taupe. The color of “give up.” One of the great things that we personally loved about this shoot, besides the obvious, was that we shot this scene within spittin’ distance of Goleta, CA: the site of what is commonly known as the very first recorded drag race. We just kinda nerd out on that kind of stuff.
